In his compositions, which are frequently presented as "audio sculptures", Della Marina uses diverse mathematical abstractions and his own audio generators.

Since 1998, he has also been active in the field of sound art, live concerts, performances and audio installations, collaborating with artists such as Klaus Filip, John Grzinich and Paulo Raposo.

Della Marina studied performing arts at the Universita degli Studi di Bologna, where he focused on compositions and computer-generated music. He has participated in many different audio workshops (Studio Agon Milano, Carsten Nicolai, Jeremy Bernstein, Michele Tadini etc.) and is a member of international institutions such as the Mela Foundation in New York and the Forum für Klanglandshaft in Basel.

From 1999 to 2004 Della Marina was curator at the multimedia IX Century Museum at the University of Bologna. He has created audio installations and interactive environments at the Universita Federico II di Napoli, Triennale di Milano, Futurshow, and Biennale di Architettura di Venezia.

In 2006, he was artistic director of the "Pushing the Medium#3 - Making sound visible" project - an international audio and mixed-media symposium organized in collaboration with the Universita degli Studi di Udine, Orchestra Filarmonica di Udine, Binaural Assciaçao and MoKS.
