Gavlasová Petra (bio ENG)

During her studies, Gavlasová went on a three-month internship in Amsterdam, and after graduating from HAMU (master's course, 2002) she spent a year on a postgraduate internship in Hilversum, the Netherlands (School of Arts, Media and Technology, with a specialization in Composition in Context), where she acquired a deeper insight into electroacoustic music composition. She currently teaches at The English College in Prague and works as a music director.

Gavlasová's compositions won several awards at the Generace composers' contest; in 2003, her "Survivors" received an award in the Czech category of the MUSICA NOVA electroacoustic music competition. She writes orchestral and chamber music, recently also chamber pieces using electronics. In 2006, Gavlasová helped compose the soundtrack for the documentary film Lost Holiday (directed by Lucie Králová, 2007 - main award in the full-length documentary category at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival). Gavlasová also collaborated with violinist Lenka Župková and director Hana Železná on the multimedia project Orlando (2007), an electroacoustic composition based on Virginia Woolf's novel, and on 657 seconds (2008), music for video art.
