Delia Michael (bio ENG)

He was born in new jersey in 1963 and is currently based in New York and Prague, CZ. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Moravian College in 1985 and after moving to NYC in 1987 he received an MFA degree in Sculpture from the School of Visual arts having studied with William Tucker, Will Insley, and Mary Miss.

He continued to live and work in New York creating sculpture with found objects inspired by minimalism and african art. This period coincided with an interest in the downtown new music/improv scene happening at the Knitting Factory and in concert series' at the Alternative museum, Roulette, and Experimental Intermedia. This led to early experiments in sound using homemade percussion and kalimba's/mbira's.

He began to bring sound as an element into his sculptural installations and found object sculptures resulting in homemade musical instruments and objects. In 1992 he traveled to Czechoslovakia where he participated in the first Hermit symposium in Plasy. Here he began artistic and musical collaborations with Czech artists and musicians which continue to the present time.
